Montvale is a northern Bergen County borough that combines established residential neighborhoods, an active Pascack Valley rail station, major corporate and healthcare employers, substantial shopping and dining, and more than 60 acres of borough-owned open space.
The community has changed rapidly in recent years around DePiero Drive and North Market while retaining older landmarks, Memorial Park and the traditional Chestnut Ridge/Kinderkamack corridors.

The Census Bureau estimates that Montvale grew from 8,436 residents in the 2020 Census to 10,113 in 2025. The borough's recent growth is visible in newer housing and the large mixed-use North Market area.
History & local character
Montvale was incorporated on August 31, 1894 from portions of Washington Township and Orvil Township.
Rail service through the Pascack Valley helped turn the formerly rural area into a suburban community with direct New York-region connections.
The borough recognizes multiple local landmarks including St. Paul's Old Stone Church, the J.J. Blauvelt Octagon House and several historic homesteads.
Former corporate and farm properties have been redeveloped into new housing, shopping, services and mixed-use districts, especially around DePiero Drive and Market Street.
