Englewood Cliffs Visiting & Lodging
Englewood Cliffs is one of Bergen County's most scenic visitor destinations. The borough sits along the top of the Hudson River Palisades, with overlooks, wooded trails, picnic areas and river access only minutes from the George Washington Bridge and Manhattan.
The visitor experience is overwhelmingly about the Palisades Interstate Park. Conventional overnight lodging is generally found in nearby Fort Lee, Englewood and Teaneck rather than within Englewood Cliffs itself.

Rockefeller Lookout
Rockefeller Lookout is Englewood Cliffs' signature public overlook. It sits along the northbound Palisades Interstate Parkway about one mile north of Exit 1 and rises roughly 400 feet above sea level.
The overlook faces the Hudson River and Spuyten Duyvil, with broad views toward the George Washington Bridge and Manhattan skyline.
The Palisades Interstate Park currently lists Rockefeller Lookout as open 24 hours.
No restrooms or other visitor facilities are provided at Rockefeller Lookout, so plan accordingly.
Driving note: Rockefeller Lookout is directly accessible from the northbound Parkway only. Follow park signs and never stop along travel lanes or shoulders outside the designated overlook.

Allison Park
Allison Park is a quieter cliff-top destination overlooking the Hudson River. Its combination of paved paths, lawn, benches and hiking access makes it a good choice for visitors who want scenery without beginning at one of the more rugged riverfront trailheads.
The grounds are currently open year-round; seasonal restrooms and drinking fountains are generally closed from November through April.
A moderate 5.5-mile loop is listed from Allison Park, with an option to shorten the route by roughly half.
The closest listed bus stop is on Route 9W / Sylvan Avenue at Charlotte Place.
Hudson River picnic areas
The lower Palisades contain some of the region's most memorable riverfront picnic settings. Access can be affected by road repairs and seasonal restrictions, so current park advisories should always be checked before driving to the shoreline.
Nearly half a mile of Hudson shoreline with picnic tables, a small playground and access toward Bloomer's Beach. The area can fill quickly on pleasant weekends.

Groups of 25 or more generally require a park permit. The Park currently states that group picnic permits are not being issued for Englewood Picnic Area while repair work continues.
The riverfront picnic areas are not served directly by public transportation; visitors may need a car, rideshare or similar transportation.
Hiking the Palisades
Englewood Cliffs provides access to the Palisades trail network, including the cliff-top Long Path and routes descending toward the Hudson River. Terrain ranges from paved or easy overlook walks to steep, rocky routes with significant elevation change.
The cliff-top trail passes Rockefeller Lookout and provides repeated Hudson River views along the Palisades ridge.

Rockfall, erosion, storm damage and seasonal conditions can close individual roads or trails. Posted barricades and park instructions always control.
Wear sturdy footwear, carry water, allow enough daylight and keep children closely supervised near cliffs and steep trail sections.
Giant Stairs closure: the Giant Stairs section of the Shore Trail remains closed because of rockfall hazards. There is no announced reopening date. Do not enter closed trail sections.
Boating & paddling
The Englewood Boat Basin is an independently operated public marina adjacent to the Englewood Picnic Area. Canoes and kayaks can also use designated park launch areas when access conditions permit.

Canoes and kayaks may launch at the north end of Englewood Picnic Area under current park rules when access is available.
The Hudson is a tidal river with strong currents and heavy boat traffic. Paddlers should understand tides, weather and New Jersey boating requirements before launching.
Important 2026 Palisades access advisories
Dyckman Hill Road / Englewood Cliffs park entrance remains closed.
The park entrance at Palisades Interstate Parkway Exit 1 is closed to vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians because of storm and rockslide damage. Do not plan to reach the riverfront through that entrance.
The Park currently directs visitors to use the Edgewater park entrance for Englewood Picnic Area while the Englewood Cliffs entrance remains closed.
Current park directions route Undercliff Picnic Area access through the Alpine / Exit 2 side rather than the closed Dyckman Hill Road entrance.
Major repairs and drainage work remain part of the park's restoration program. Road segments may be closed or restricted during construction.
