Hamilton Township is the largest municipality in New Jersey by area, covering about 114 square miles in central Atlantic County. Mays Landing is the historic center and county seat, while the eastern McKee City and Black Horse Pike corridor forms one of South Jersey's largest retail concentrations. Much of the township remains shaped by Pinelands regulations, forests, lakes and rural roads.

Government

Hamilton Township has a five-member Township Committee elected at large. Committee members select a mayor and deputy mayor annually. For 2026, Carl Pitale serves as mayor and Richard Cheek as deputy mayor, with Eric Aiken, Tracy Thompson and Dr. Thelma Witherspoon also serving on the committee.

Education

Hamilton Township School District

The PK–8 district includes Joseph C. Shaner School, the George L. Hess Educational Complex and William Davies Middle School. District offices are at 1876 Dr. Dennis Foreman Drive.

Oakcrest High School

Hamilton Township students are assigned to Oakcrest High School through the Greater Egg Harbor Regional High School District unless attending an approved magnet program.

Atlantic Cape Community College

The main campus on Black Horse Pike brings higher education, workforce training and the Academy of Culinary Arts to the township.

Atlantic County Institute of Technology

Located in Hamilton Business Park and providing countywide career and technical education.
